Christmas in April looking for homeowners in need

ELKTON — April 26 is around the corner and Christmas in April Cecil County needs to fill the holes in its work schedule for that day.

“We need a few more projects,” said Bob Alcorn, president of the local chapter of the national non-profit group that helps low-income homeowners with much-needed repairs.

Alcorn said they are looking for a handful of projects for groups that want to take part in the work day.

“We need someone who needs a ramp built or a roofing job,” he said, for example. All the materials are provided by donation, with the manpower coming from clubs, civic groups, companies, and churches who volunteered their time to give back to the community.

Alcorn said Christmas in April service is available to traditional homes and manufactured homes 10 years old or younger.

“The exception to that is that we will build a ramp or a deck or replace screens in windows or doors,” he said.

Applications need to be filled out and returned to CIA/CC by April 7. Cecil County Public Library branches have paper applications. Applications are also available online at www.christmasinaprilcecilcounty.org.
